RE: Batch running of jobs (was: Queue on Windows)

Gortner, Matt
How would someone run this script AND make sure a .log file is created?
I've used it a bunch of times but now find it frustrating not knowing
the times posted in the log.

Thanks,
Matt

Subject: [ABAQUS] Batch running of jobs (was: Queue on Windows)

There has been a bit of interest in this, so I thought I would post it
to the group.

The following lines are written into a text file, named (e.g.)
'script.bat'.  Then the job is started by opening a DOS window, moving
to the appropriate location and typing 'script.bat'.

cd \folder1
call abaqus job=jobname1 user=subroutine.for ask_delete=OFF
interactive
echo on
cd \folder2
call abaqus job=jobname2 user=subroutine.for ask_delete=OFF
interactive
echo on
etc...

The 'interactive' option is used to give abaqus control of the shell
until the job has finished - this means that output goes to the
console rather than the log file.  The the 'echo on' line is needed
after each job, as abaqus switches output off when it runs.  I added
ask_delete=OFF so that it doesn't sit there overnight waiting for you
to confirm whether it may overwrite existing job files.  You can use
whatever other options you wish.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Jon.

RE: Batch running of jobs (was: Queue on Windows)

Jan L. Hansen
I surpose something like running the batch file by typing at the prompt:
script.bat > output.log
then the output.log file contains most of what the normal job.log file contains.

Jan Langkjær

I think you're out of luck here: if you specify "interactive", your
log is written to the stdout (i.e. the screen). I guess this option is
useful for job and user subroutine debugging, where the runtime is
small and you need to see what happens immediately or check the
compiler output. If you need to run jobs in a queue, you may try a
more sophisticated batch system (check the archives)...

Check the documentation too, esp. the sections "analysis procedures",
"running jobs" and the environment guide, *maybe* there is an option
to output to screen and logfile simultaneously.

Hope this helps,
Fernando

The way to run interactively AND pipe the output to the file would look
something like:

call abaqus job=jobname1 interactive > jobname1.log 2>&1

I believe this is regular windows syntax for piping stdout to file.

Ryan
