Hello everyone! I am trying to simulate Resistance Spot welding process for my Master thesis. I am a beginner in Abaqus. I would like a direct help or any link to old archives. I am sure my problem would have been discussed before. But I can't seem to find the archives.
I have modeled a quarter model of 2 copper electrodes and 2 steel sheets to simulate Resistance Spot welding. I have given a boundary condition at the top electrode constrained in the length direction. And I have also symmetry boundary conditions. At present, I am analyzing only the first step of the process i.e Clamping. I am giving the load through the lower electrode face as a pressure load.
The electrode-sheet and sheet-sheet interfaces have been given tangential behaviour
This simple Non-Linear static analysis or coupled temp-disp transient analysis step is also not getting converged. I am getting contact force error outside tolerances. The SDIs don't seem to be converging.
I have tried
1. Adding normal behaviour
2. Adjusting for overclosure
3. Adding automatic stabilization
Any kind of help/suggestion is welcome. Thanks in Advance,
It sounds like Abaqus is struggling to resolve the contact in the first increment. Try applying a small displacement in the first step, rather than applying a load.
If the electrodes have a curved surface and you have a quarter model you will initially have contact at a single node. Try adding contact along the edge of the cut surface using the edge/nodes.
